ALUMNI ASSOCIATION LUMDING COLLEGE

The long cherished dream of the people of Lumding for an institute of higher education realised on 14thAugust,1959 when Lumdimg College started its journey unto eternity from the humble Assam type class-room buildings of B.L Bajaj Sanatan Dharma Vidya Mandir (Hindi High School, Lumding). After a couple of years the college shifted to its permanent location on Lumding as it is now. The fifty years journey that the college has undertaken in the mean time has been enriched by thousands of students who excelled in their life through a rich tradition and valuable education which was imparted to them by the college. This college shaped the destiny of numerous students who in turn left an indelible impression of their excellent talent, creative energy and glorious performance in the history of the institute. In the days of yore, classes used to be held in evening and students were mostly either railway employees or businessmen.
The state of affairs in the college took a turn towards positive direction in 70’s decade when the student intake increased in a significant manner. From the decade of 70’s till date a huge number of students have graduated from this college and a lot of them continued their involvement with the college by lending valuable contribution to the growth and development of the college. But the absence of a well-organised alumni association was acutely felt on numerous occasions, as a result of which on 27th December 2002 Lumding College Alumni Association was formed. Mr. Kumar Nath Das, the then HoD English, Lumding College and a former student of this institute was nominated to be the founder President of the body and Mr. Prabir Ch. Bhowmick was nominated to be its first General Secretary. The General Secretary, Mr. Bhowmick emphasized on the necessity of a holistic approach by each and every alumni member for an all-round development of this institute.
In the year 2002, when the college was preparing for an inspection of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Principal, Lumding College received a communication from it. NAAC emphasized on the importance of a vibrant alumni association which may prove to be a great asset to the college. Buoyed by this noble objective the members of started raising funds for assisting the college in its infrastructural development. By the time the members of NAAC visited the college in December 2004, Lumding College Alumni Association deposited approximately Rs.70000 in the Infrastructural Development Fund of the college. It also donated a computer set to the Dept. of Mathematics, Limding College.
Since 2004, every year Lumding College Alumni Association is different creative activities and cultural programmes in the college. Programmes like art competition, exhibition of sculptural objects and Rabindra Jayanti Celebration has been organised amongst much fanfare and euphoria. This year Lumding College is celebrating its ‘Golden Jubilee’ and alumni association has taken the initiative of celebrating the occasion with day long programmes on 24th and 25th October’09. Dr. Bani Prasanna Misra, a scholar of eminence is going to deliver a special speech on this occasion. On the second day of the programme there will be an alumni interaction which will present a great opportunity to the students of present generation to come to terms with the tradition and value system of the college. So, my dear friends you all are invited to come and be a part of this celebration.
